Graham Creek Nature Preserve Educational Programs
Come learn with us!
2014 was an inaugural year for the Graham Creek Nature Preserve Outdoor Classroom, Learning Stations and Explore and Observe at the Preserve Play Days. Schools from the region conducted field trips based off of the educational curriculum using the learning stations. We hosted sixteen Explore and Observe at the Preserve Play Days as well. During the summer months, Pioneer Camp was conducted on two occasions. With all the educational activities performed at the Preserve, approximately 2500 youth participated. Our efforts reached beyond the Foley area as we welcomed students from Pensacola and Rosinton schools.
During 2015, expansions of the programs were planned with advertisement to additional schools. There were four field trips booked for the spring. Three summer camps were scheduled as well. Twice a month, play days were offered as well. All of these programs are provided free of charge through the efforts of the Foley Environmental Division. With the recent additions of an archery park, disc golf course and updated trails, outdoor recreation is also included in the programs.
2016 saw major expansion with an all new Interpretive Center with interpretive nature displays, live reptilians, meeting/conference facilities and classrooms. The Friends of Graham Creek has been formed as well to assist with routing donations to assist with purchasing educational supplies and displays. There is much excitement with all the added activities available to the community.
